PowerMTA hosting

PowerMTA hosting, without buying PowerMTA

People search for PowerMTA hosting because they want what PMTA delivers: fast, dedicated, finely controlled bulk sending with IP and domain rotation. SendHaven gives you that outcome on managed dedicated servers, with the licence cost, the server administration and the burned-IP problem handled by us.

What people actually want when they search for PowerMTA hosting

PowerMTA is a commercial mail transfer agent built for high-volume senders: per-domain throttling, virtual MTAs for IP rotation, detailed bounce categorisation, fast queues. It is excellent software. It is also a licence that costs real money, a server you have to configure and tune, and an operations job that never ends: monitoring blacklists, replacing burned IPs, re-warming, rebuilding.

"PowerMTA hosting" searches split into three groups:

  • People who own a PMTA licence and want a host that will tolerate their traffic. Most hosts won't.
  • People who want PMTA-grade sending and assume they have to buy and run PMTA to get it.
  • People whose current PMTA box just burned and need to be sending again this week.

SendHaven is built for the second and third group, and works for the first if you are willing to let us run the stack.

What SendHaven provides instead of a PMTA licence

Each SendHaven server is a dedicated VPS with a dedicated IPv4 and a tuned, production MTA stack that does the job PMTA is bought for:

  • Per-domain throttling and queue management so Gmail, Outlook and Yahoo each get traffic at the rate they accept.
  • IP rotation. Round-robin across servers on three-server plans, advanced rotation pools with per-domain strategy on five-server plans.
  • Domain rotation across your sending domains, with custom tracking domains.
  • Bounce and complaint handling with feedback-loop processing, so bad addresses are suppressed automatically.
  • Authentication done properly: SPF, 2048-bit DKIM, DMARC, ARC.
  • Warmup on new IPs, managed on multi-server plans.
  • Replacement when burned. The part no PMTA licence includes.

You connect over SMTP or API from your existing front-end: MailWizz, Mumara, Interspire, or code. The MailWizz delivery server setup is the most common.

If you need root on the MTA, we are not the right fit and we will say so on the call. If you need the output of a PMTA stack and your time back, we are.

Migrating from a PowerMTA setup

  1. Tell us your volume, verticals and current domains. We size the package and map your rotation.
  2. Point your sending domains at our servers. New SPF/DKIM/DMARC records; we provide them.
  3. Swap the delivery server in your front-end. Replace the PMTA SMTP entry with ours. Same platform, same lists, same templates.
  4. Warm up. New IPs ramp over four to six weeks; we run it on multi-server plans. If you are migrating because your IPs burned, this is the step you were going to have to do anyway.
  5. Retire the licence. Or keep it for a separate project; nothing we do depends on it.

PowerMTA hosting FAQ

No. We run our own tuned MTA stack on dedicated servers and deliver the same outcomes PMTA is bought for: dedicated IPs, per-domain throttling, rotation, bounce handling. You don't need a PMTA licence to use SendHaven.

Not onto our servers, because customers don't get server access. If keeping your own PMTA installation matters more than having the operations handled, a tolerant VPS host is the better fit, and the VPS page explains what to look for.

Rotation and per-domain throttling are configured for you based on your volume and verticals, and adjusted as reputation data comes in. On five-server plans you get per-domain rotation strategy and an analytics dashboard. What you don't get is a config file to edit yourself.

Your platform sends to one endpoint. On three-server plans we rotate round-robin across the dedicated IPs. On five-server plans we run rotation pools that weight IPs by reputation per destination domain, which is the virtual-MTA behaviour PMTA users expect.

Hard and soft bounces are categorised and suppressed automatically, feedback loops are processed where providers offer them, and complaint rates are monitored per server. Suppression data is available to your platform.

We deploy a fresh server with a new IP and the same configuration and move it into rotation. Included in every plan. This is the single biggest operational difference from running PMTA yourself.
